Lawrence P. Sellers (D-160) passed away on 20 June 2008 while in the hospital in Santa Rosa, CA. He joined the SFA in 1966 and was a member of Chapter 14 in Monterey. Larry’s SF assignments included the 77th, 10th, 7th, 8th and 6th SFG’s.
 

MSG(R) Manfred Walter (Fred) Baier (D-121) age 76, passed away March 25, 2008 while in Wyndridge Health and Rehab Center, Crossville, TN. Fred served in the 77th , 7th, 10th , 5th, 1st , and the 3rd SFG(A)

1SG MANUEL (MANNY) C. BUSTAMANTE (D-626), an SFA life member at large, age 68, passed away on March 10, 2008 at home in El Paso, TX. Manny joined Special Forces in 1960 and spent the next several years in the 1st, 5th, and 8th, SFG(A). He also served in Vietnam for 6 months in 1964 as a member of the 1st SFG. Subsequently, he was placed on special assignment in the Dominican Republic in 1965. He then joined the 8th Group in Panama and served on several missions in South America until his reassignment to Vietnam in 1968 where he served in the 5th Group as a member of II Corps Mike Force running patrols as Platoon Leader. He later transferred and ran patrols with Delta Project and MAC-V-SOG as a member of OP-35 and OP-36. Among his many awards, and decorations he is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, three Bronzed Star Medals with V Devices for valor, 3 Purple Hearts, 2 Air Medals with V Devices for valor, 2 Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was also awarded 2 U.S. Presidential Unit Citations, the Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation and the Vietnamese Civic Action Medal along with the Combat Infantry Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge and many other service awards.

SGM(R) Paul Kellam Jr. (M-7571), age 82, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, in his home. Paul was an Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, with 22 years of service. He was a member of the Army Special Forces, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). He was one of the original volunteers for Special Forces.

SGM(R) Loner B. Westmoreland (D-1713) 89, passed away March 7, 2008, at his home near Cleveland, Tennessee following a lengthy illness.  Loner started his Army career in July, 1937 as a “horse soldier” in the 6th US Cavalry at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He continued to serve with the cavalry (now mechanized) throughout World War II, serving in the 28th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in France and Germany, followed by occupation duty (again with horses) in the 6th Constabulary Regiment.
Loner went through “Jump School” at Fort Benning in November, 1948 and shortly afterward joined the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. In 1950, he went through Ranger training and became the First Sergeant of the 5th Airborne Infantry Ranger Company, deploying with that unit to Korea. Following extensive combat, the 5th Airborne Ranger Co., sustained unit-debilitating casualties. As a result, the Airborne Ranger Companies were disbanded and their personnel absorbed within the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Here Loner served until June, 1952. Upon his return to CONUS, Loner was assigned as a First Sergeant in the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning.In 1955, he joined Special Forces and was assigned to the 77th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg. Here he served as a Team Sergeant, Operations Sergeant and Sergeant Major until 1961 -- except for a one-year, unaccompanied overseas tour with the 2nd Battalion, 474th Infantry Regiment Combat Team in Iceland (from which many war-stories and tales ensued).Loner served in the 1st Special Forces Group on Okinawa (with many deployments to various Asian countries) from February, 1961 until March, 1964, when he returned to the (now) 7th Special Forces Group, where he served as Group Sergeant Major until August, 1965.Loner was awarded over 21 military awards and decorations. He was most proud of those awarded for individual achievement: the Combat Infantryman Badge (2nd Award), the Master Parachutist Badge, the Special Forces Tab, and the Ranger Tab.


MSG(R) Gale Edward Nelson (D-1456) age 72, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center. He was a member of Chapter 1-18. A Vietnam Veteran his SF Assignments included the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th SFG(A). After retirement Mr. Nelson was a training specialist with the US Army Special Operations Command.

SGM of the Army (Retired) George Dunaway (D-5206) 85, of Las Vegas, passed away 6 February 2008. George's life was soldiers, he led them, guided them, trained them, and he looked out for them and their welfare. He was among soldiers, right where he wanted to be, when he passed away. His 31 years of active duty service started in 1940, when he joined the Virginia National Guard. His active duty key assignments as a command's top SGM included being the SGM of the 187th Abn Inf Reg (Ft. Bragg), 2nd Abn Battle Gp / 187th Inf (Ft. Campbell), the 1st Special Forces Gp (Okinawa), the 5th Special Forces Gp (Vietnam), and the 101st Abn Div (Ft. Campbell and Vietnam). He was selected as Sergeant Major of the Army in 1968. His is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star w/V-Device, Purple Heart, Air Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantrymans Badge with Star, and numerous other awards and decorations,
 

John N. Norwood, Jr. (D-835) age 70, passed away 30 January 2008 while in Provena Covent Medical Center, Urbana, IL. John served in both the Navy and Army. On his application he listed the 403rd SOD, 7th SFG(A), 5th SFG(A), 1st SFG(A), and the 402nd SOD, 10th SFG(A).

SGM(R) Edward K. Miller (D-550) passed away 1 February 2008 after suffering a heart attack while in NE Methodist Hospital, San Antonio. TX. Ed served with the 1st SFG (A), SF Det. Taiwan, MACV SOG OPS 34, and SF School.
 

Gary Lee Wright (D-1556) a proud Cherokee, and retired Special Forces SOLDIER born May 10th 1939 at Tulsa, OK died at 1745hrs, 23 January,2008 from complications with congestive heart failure and diabetes while hospitalized at the Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA.  He was the recipient of the CIB, Master Parachutist Badge, BSM, ARCOM, the Purple Heart, and many other awards and decorations while serving in the 173rd Airborne Brigade and the 1st, 5th, 10th and 7th Special Forces Groups. Gary is a member of the Big Island Hilo Hawaii chapter XLIII of the Special Forces Association

Claude P. Rule (D-973) passed away in his home on 7 January 2008. Claude was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. When he joined the Association he listed his SF assignments as graduating from Tng Group in 1963 then served with the 7th, 5th 8th 1st, and 10th SFGs. A graveside service, with full military honors was held 9 January 2008 at Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC.

SGM(R) George R. Banias (D-1204) age 80, D-1204, passed away on 7 January 2008 while in Camp Lester Hospital (old Camp Kue Army Hospital), Okinawa, Japan. He was cremated January 8, 2008, and a funeral service was held on January 11, 2008. SGM Banias enlisted in the Navy in April 1945 and served one year, then entered the Army on October 4, 1951, and retired from the military June 1973. SGM Banias served in the 7th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and 1st SFA (A). SGM Banias served in WWII, Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he received many awards and decoration including the Purple Heart for wounds suffered from a land mine in Vietnam, Army Commendation Medal, WWII Victor Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, CIB, and Parachutist Badge.

SGM(R) Ben “Jaw” Taylor (D-335L) a member Chapter 43 passed away 12 December 2007. During the Korean War Ben served in 3rd Airborne Ranger Company, and later served in the 77th SFG(A), 7th SFG(A), 1st SFG(A), 3rd SFG(A), and 5th SFG(A). Ben was selected to be an Honorary Pall Bearer during the funeral of President John F. Kennedy, and he was the sheriff of Letcher County, KY for 8 years.

COL(R) William Wilson Jones, Jr. (M-8105), age 70, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2007. When COL (R) Jones joined the SFA he listed SF units as 5th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), SWC, SOCLANT, and Special Assignment. Wilbur Donaldson (M-7656), a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 44, Pensacola, FL passed away after succumbing to lung cancer on Friday, November 23, 2007. Wilbur served in 5th SFG(A) 62-64, 1st SFG(A) 64-68, 3rd SFG(A) 68-69, and 5th SFG(A) 69-70.
 

MSG(R) Roger A. Miller, Sr., (D-2279) age 68, a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18, passed away 20 October 2007 while in Norfolk Sentara Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Roger retired from Special Forces after serving 22 years in the military. Roger served in the 77th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and MACV SOG.

Guy M. Johnson (D-3004) age 57, passed away in his home 9 September 2007. He was a member of SFA Chapter 16. Guys SF assignments included 1st SFG(A), 7th SFG(A) and 1st SOCOM spanning over 19 years. His awards and decorations include Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal w/OLC, Army Achievement Medal, and Master Parachute Badge.
 

SGM(R) Robert D. Hede (D-23) 80, Charter member of the Special Forces Association and member of Chapter 1-18 passed away Sunday, 24 June 2007 while in the hospital in Johnson City, TN. Bob was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran. When he joined the Association he listed his SF assignments as 10th SFG(A), 77th SFG(A), 1st SFG(A), UW Dept. Special Warfare Center, and 3rd SFG(A). After retiring from the Army Bob served three years with the CIA in Vietnam and was awarded the Agency's second highest award for valor the Intelligence Star for actions at Vung Tau.

MSG (R) Donald T. Presler (D-817) age 70, a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 8, passed away in his residence, 13 June 2007. Don served with the 6th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 1 SFG (A), and MACV SOG. He awards and decorations included the Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, CIB, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Master Para. Badge, Air Crewman Badge, Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Special Terrain Para. Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Para. MSG(R) James V. Hanks, AKA JV (D-14) age 78, Special Forces Association member at large, passed away March 2, 2007. He was a Charter Member of the Decade Association. He was a Vietnam Veteran. When JV joined the association he listed the 77th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 7th SSFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), and the 5th SFG (A), as SF units he had served in. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

MSG (R)  Coy  G.  Melton  (D-1627)  Special Forces Association Chapter 33,Cleveland, TN passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007 in the VA Nursing Home, Asheville, NC. Coy was an original member of FA Team 14, 10th SFG (A) Bad Tolz, Germany, and later served in the 77th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and 5th SFG (A).

SFC (R)  Garry  D.  Stamm  (D-489)  Don Paquin, Secretary/Treasurer, Special Forces Association Chapter 32 reported that Garry D. Stamm, Age 71, SFC (R), President of Special Forces Association Chapter 32, in Lawton, OK passed away, after a brief illness in a hospital in Wichita Falls, KS, on April 18, 2007. SFC (R)  Harry  L.  Rogers  (D-452)  Mike Poncin reported that his father-in-law Harry L. Rogers, age 70, D-452, Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18 in Fayetteville, NC passed away April 18, 2007 in Charlotte, NC. Harry served in the 10th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and the 3rd SFG (A). Harry awards and decoration include National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 5 Awards, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Parachute Badge, Senior Parachute Badge, Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. SFC (R)  James  J.  Malia  D-1105  The Special Forces Association was notified the SFC (R) James J. Malia, Jr. D-1105L, Chapter 15 in San Antonio, TX has passed away. James received a medical discharge in July 1972 as results from war wounds from Vietnam. He entered Special Forces Training Group in 1962, and later served in the 1st SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and Combined Studies Vietnam. No other obit information is available.

CSM (R)  Joseph  A.  Mancuso  (D-37)  Joseph A. Mancuso, D-37, age 89, Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18 in Fayetteville, NC passed away March 19, 2007 in Methodist North Hospital, Memphis, TN. Joe served in WWII, Korean and Vietnam conflicts. His awards and decorations include five Purple Hearts, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Stars, and Army Commendation Ribbon. He joined the 10th SFG (A) on August 1, 1952, and later served in the 77th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and 1st SFG (A). Joe leaves a daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren. He will have a Mass at 13:00 hrs, Friday, March 23, 2007 in St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, TN with visitation one hour prior starting at 12:00 hrs. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.

SGM (R)  Robert  L.  Bennett  D-42  SGM (R) Robert L. Bennett, D-42, a Special Forces Association member At Large, and a charter member of the U.S. Army Decade Club, which was founded at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1964, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Robert served in the 10th SFG (A), 77th SFG (A), 14th SF Operational Detachment (A), 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), the UW Department, SWS. He participated in both the Korean & Vietnam conflicts. He leaves a wife, daughter, two sons, sister, and six grandchildren.

MSG (R)  Howard  D.  Colvin  (D-791)  MSG (R) Howard D. Colvin, D-791, Special Forces Association (SFA) Chapter 1-18, Fayetteville, NC passed February 21, 2007 while in Womack Army Hospital, Ft. Bragg, NC following a lengthy illness. Howard served in the 1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), MACV SOG, 8th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), 46th Co., Thailand, and the 7th SFG (A).

SGM (R)  Thomas  M.  Horn  M-370  Ronald Wingo, D-473 Brother-In-Law of SGM (R) Thomas M. Horn Jr. M-370, reported that Thomas age 63, passed away February 13, 2007 at his home. MSG (R)  George  H.  Heaps  (D-694)  Age 70, Special Forces Association Chapter 01-18, and a long time Special Forces medic passed away Feb 12, 2007 after a lengthy illness, while in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC. George served in the 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and USAIMA.  George leaves a wife, two brothers, and a sister

MSG (R)  George  L.  Whitten  (D-2514)  Age 80, passed away January 28, 2007 after a prolonged bout with colon cancer. George enlisted in the Army in January 1945 and retired in August 1969. He was a life member of Special Forces Association (SFA) Chapter 33 in Ellijay, Ga. When he joined the SFA he had served in the 10th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), and the 1st SFG (A). He was a Vietnam Vet.

MSG (R)  Samuel  A.  Bridgewater  (D-748)  The Special Forces Association (SFA) received an obit on MSG (R) Samuel “Sam” A. Bridgewater, D-748, Chapter 1-18, age 81 of Charlotte, NC who passed away Friday, January 5, 2007. Sam joined the 77th SFG (A) in January 1953, and later served in the 10th SFG (A”), 7th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and the 5th SFG (A). Sam was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. At one time Sam was a member the Army “Golden Knights Parachute Team.” He leaves a wife, son, and one brother.

Roland  E.  Dutton  (M-6395)  It was reported to the Special Forces Association that Roland E. Dutton, M-6395, member at large died as a results from a fall inside his home. Roland served in the 7th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and MACV SOG.  Burial will be later in Leavenworth, KS

Walter  J.  Boyling  (D-5543)  The Special Forces Association (SFA) was informed that Walter J. Boyling, D-5543, member at large, who was in the South Side Memorial Hospital in Summer Point, New Jersey passed away of possible heart failure December 31, 2007. When Walter joined the SFA he indicated he had served in the 77th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), and the 1st SFG (A). He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery at 13:00 hrs. January 16, 2007.

MSG (R)  Michael  J.  Oruska, Sr  (D-413)  of Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18, Fayetteville, NC passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 after a well-fought battle with cancer. Michael served in FB-6, 77th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and 10th SFG (A). He served in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts. As a Master Sergeant with 20 years service, Mike’s military career was cut short after being severely wounded in 1969. He leaves a wife, 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

MSG (R)  Robert  W.  Barnes  (D-896)  Age 68 passed away December 15, 2006 at a Medical Center, in Lebanon, NH. Robert entered the Army in 1955 and retired in 1980. He was a Special Forces Association Life member at large. He finished Special Forces Training Group in July 1964, and served in both Co. “E” & Co. “C”, 7th SFG (A), Co “C” & “D”, 5th SFG (A) RVN, SOG “CCC” RVN, 46th Co. Thailand, Co. “C”, 1st SFG (A), and 10th SFG (A). Thomas was awarded numerous awards and decorations that include the Silver Star, Bronze Star w/V Device, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Metal w/60 Device, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, CIB, Master Parachute Wings, and Thailand & Vietnamese Jump Wings. SFC (R)  Ernest  L.  Conner, Sr.  (D-4892)  The Fayetteville Observer newspaper dated December 1, 2006 reported that SFC (R) Ernest “Ernie” L. Conner, Sr., D-4892, Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18 Fayetteville, NC passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006. “Ernie” finished Training Group in November 1962, and was assigned to Co. “C”, 7th SFG (A), and later served in the 1st SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), and the 5th SFG (A) in Vietnam. “Ernie” leaves a wife of 40 yrs, four sons, three daughter, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. CSM (R)  Edward  L.  Montgomery  (D-9)  passed away in a local hospital in Zephyr Hills, FL last evening November 1, 2006. Monty was one of the Charter members of the Special Forces Association. Monty served in the 10th SFG (A), 77th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), and 46th SF Company (A). Monty participated in WW II with the 508 PIR during D-Day June 6, 1944 and the Holland invasion September 17, 1944. In 1975, he was the Troop Command Sergeant Major, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Whitfield Funeral Home, 5008 Gall Blvd, Zephyr Hills, FL (813) 783-9900.

MSG (R)  Gene  NMI  Bell  (D-662)  Gene was found deceased inside his apartment in Fayetteville, NC October 11, 2006. . Gene served two tours with the 1st SFG (A), three tours with the 5th SFG (A) in Vietnam, and the 7th SFG (A). A niece survives Gene. Gene will be cremated, and his ashes put into the pond located inside the SFA compound with military honors at 13:00 hrs. Friday, October 20, 2006

SGM (R)  Norval  E.  Riggs  (D-53)  Age 88, passed away Monday, October 9, 2006 in his home with his family at his side. Norval served in World War II with the 1st Special Service Force 3-2 from July 9, 1942 to January 6, 1945. In 1952, he joined the 19th Detachment, 10th SFG (A), and later served in the 77th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), and the 110th Recon Co, in Italy. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and numerous other awards and decorations. His wife Iris, a son LTC (R) Richard Riggs, and a granddaughter survive him.

LTC  Douglas  H.  Mann  (D-6386)  Lt. Col. Douglas H. Mann, passed away September 23, 2006. Doug had been stationed in Texas when he had a motorcycle accident and suffered severe head injuries, which resulted in his death. Born: April 18, 1955 in Rochester, New York, he enlisted in the US Army in 1974, took Infantry basic training, then attended Airborne School, and after Airborne School was assigned to 82nd Airborne Div. He completed Recondo, Pathfinder, and Sniper Schools. Lt. Col. Mann received a degree from State University of New York. Received his Commission and was assigned to 25th Division. Completed Ranger School, then the Special Forces Q Course, followed by HALO School, then Psyop's and Civil Affairs School. His assignments include: Team Commander A-121 (Maritime Opn's ), Co. B, 1st SFG (A), Okinawa, Japan, Mogadishu, Somalia - United Nations Restore Hope Vicenza, Italy - European Task Force ( Abn ),Operation Iraqi Freedom, Philippines - Joint Special Operations Task Force. Lt. Col. Mann has received a number of awards, to include: Purple Heart, Bronze Star w/" V " Device, CIB, Global Terrorism, Expeditionary Medal, and Defense Service Medal.

CSM (R)  Scott  "Andy"  Anderson    On September 16, 2006, Retired CSM Scott ³Andy² Anderson passed on suddenly due to advanced stages of skin cancer. Andy was battling the decease for over two years. Last year they thought they had gotten it all, but on September 3, 2006 during a routine follow-up, they found that it had come back with a vengeance, and had spread so far so fast that it was terminal. Andy thought he had a couple months, but he was gone in 2-weeks. His wife Magda, and his son Jason survive him. Magda said he passed quietly and without too much pain. The funeral was held September 26, 2006 at 1000 hrs. in Monroe, WA at the Purdy and Kerr Dawson Funeral Home, . CSM Anderson served in every SF Group except the 3rd SFG (A).

MSG (R)  Frank  C.  Guill  (D-4328)  Of 805 McPherson Ave, Fayetteville, NC 28303 passed away September 30, 2006. Frank served in the 77th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and 1st SFG (A). MSG (R)  Oliver  W.  Galington  (D-2428)  Age 75 was found deceased inside his home September 26, 2006. According to his Special Forces Association application he served from April 1951 to August 1951 in a Airborne Ranger Company in Korea, in April 1961 to December 1964 he was in the 1st SFG (A), and in January 1965 to October 1967 he served in the Special Forces Training Group (A), in November 1967 to November 1968 he was in Vietnam with the 5th SFG (A), December 1968 to December 1970 he was in the 7th SFG (A), and finally IMA HALO Committee from December 1970 to April 1977.

CSM (R)  Roberto    Canales  (D-1576)  Age 71, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006 while in the University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC. Moe was surrounded by his wife, and family. Moe fought the fight, kept the faith, and stayed the course; however, his body could no longer overcome his tremendous illness Moe was a veteran of the Korean, and Vietnam wars. Moe was a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 15, San Antonio, TX where his brother SGM (R) Armando is the President of the Chapter. When Moe finished Training Group in July 1966, he was then assigned to “B” Co. 6th SFG (A), then to the 5th SFG (A), “D” Co. 3rd SFG (A), and “A” Co., 1st SFG (A).

COL(R)  Albert  A.  DeProspero  (D-1177)  Passed away Saturday, September 9, 2006. He was a member of Special Forces Association (SFA) Chapter 11 located in Falls Church, VA. When the COL (R) joined the SFA, his application indicated he served with the, 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), USA CDC Chief Strategic Operations, Office of Secretary of Defense, and G3 USAJFKCEN.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations in the COL (R) Albert A. MSG (R)  Raymond  F.  Flaherty  (D-2129)  Raymond F. Flaherty, age 79, (D-2129), Chapter 21 in Ft. Meyers, FL Passed away 9-11- 2006 from cancer while in Wuesthoff hospital in Cocoa, FL. Ray served in the Merchant Marines during the latter part of WW11. Enlisted in the Army Nov 47, and served in various airborne units, and earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart during the Korean Conflict. Enlisted for Special Forces (Green Berets) and served in Laos on a White Star Mobile Training Team (WSMTT) FTT-19 in 1962. He also served in the 7th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), and the 5th SFG (A) in Vietnam earning several awards and decorations. He retired in June 67. Ray was the author of "He Didn't Say Good-Bye" He is preceded in death by his wife Linda, and son Danny. Survived by his children Brian, Jeff, Michael, Lisa, and Kim, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

MSG (R)  Donald  NMI  Snowhite  (D-964)  Chapter 43 Tacoma, WA passed away, September 7, 2006. When Don joined the Special Forces Association he list Special Forces Tng. Gp, 1961-1962, Co. “C”, 1st SFG (A), and Co. “B”, 1st SFG (A) as his Special Forces assignments. Don was cremated. Interment is tentatively scheduled for 1100 hrs, 14 September at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Trench Rd, Bridgeton, NJ.

MSG (R)  Edward  D.  Clark  (D-212)  Age 80 passed away in his home August 24, 2006. Ed served in the 77th SFG (A), 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and Training Group. He retired in May 1967. He leaves two sons, and a daughter-in-law. He had a private burial in Fort Bragg Main cemetery.

SGM (R)  Anthony "Tony"  NMI  Nomura  (D-793)  Age 76, passed away August 11, 2006 after a bout with colon cancer. Tony (D-793) was an at large member of the Special Forces Association in Austin, TX. Tony joined the 7th SFG (A), in October 1961, and later served on a White Star Mobile Training Team, Laos, 5th SFG (A), Vietnam, 10th SFG (A), 46th Co., Thailand, and MACVSOG, Vietnam.

CSM (R)  Adrian  A.  Rodriguez  (D-634)  Age 76 passed away while in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC, August 11, 2006. CSM (R) Rodriguez was a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 01-18, Fayetteville, NC. Adrian joined the 77th SFG (A) in August 1954, and later served in the 1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 8th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and MACVSOG, CCN.  In lieu of flowers, made donations to St Patrick Catholic Church, or to the Special Forces Association.

Bobby  (NMI)  Linville  (D-304)  Bobby, a life member of Special Forces Association Chapter 21 passed away from complications with lung cancer while in a Hospice House on Saturday, July 22, 2006. CPT (R)  John  NMI  Ramos  (M-6925)  Passed away June 28, 2006. John was a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 26 located in Sykesville, MD. John served in the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and the 6th SFG (A).

MSG (R)  Jackie  E.  Stowers, Sr.  (D-3584)  The Fayetteville Observer newspaper dated June 6, 2006 reported the death of MSG (R) Jackie E. Stowers, Sr., age 75. Jackie was a life member (D-3584), and was a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18, Fayetteville, NC. Jackie listed the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 77th SFG (A), and Special Warfare Center as Special Forces units he had served in. He entered the Army at age 16, and retired after 21 years of service to his country. He also retired from Civil service, at Ft. Bragg, NC after 21 years. He was a Korean and Vietnam veteran.

MSG (R)  Manuel  N.  Makalena  (D-1153)   Manuel passed away at 01:35 hours, 25 May 2006 at the Franciscan Hospice, University Place, WA. Memorial Services was held at 0800 on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 in the Four Chaplains Chapel, Fort Lewis, WA. When Manuel joined the Special Forces Association, he listed the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and the 46tth SFG (A) Company, Thailand as Special Forces units he had served in. CSM (R)  Galen  C.  Kittleson  (D-899)  AKA "Pappy", age 81, D-899, Chapter 20, Winthrop, MN, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006 in Rochester, Minnesota. His funeral was on Monday, May 8, 2006 in Toeterville, Iowa, and was buried in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa with military honors. In World War II, he was assigned to the 503rd Regimental Combat Team in the Pacific theater, and was later selected for the Alamo Scouts an elite reconnaissance unit. While in the Alamo Scouts, he helped free 511 prisoners of war of the infamous Bataan Death March from POW Camp Cabanatuan, Province-Luzon, Philippines. Pappy listed the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), and 10TH SFG (A) as his Special Forces assignments. In 1970, Pappy was in the assault element (Blue Boy) on the raid into Son Tay prison in North Vietnam to rescue American POW’s. In 1973, he was promoted to Command Sergeant Major, and retired in July 1978. In July 2002, a book titled “Raider” was released depicting his life as a soldier and POW raider.

SGM (R)  Vernon  C.  Broad  (D-557)  Age 72, of Kaneohe, Hawaii passed away peacefully in his home April 19, 2006. Vernon was a member of Special Forces Association Chapter 8. He retired from both the Honolulu Police Department after 27 years, and a Sergeant Major of the USAR Special Forces unit based in Honolulu, Hawaii. He leaves a wife, three daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. . Vernon was a Korean War Veteran, and will be buried with full military honors in Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe, Hawaii .

Leo  V.  Lynch  (M-494)  Leo V. Lynch passed away in Naples, FL on April 17, 2006. Leo attended Special Forces Training Group in January 1964, and was later assigned to the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and the 10th SFG (A). He is survived by his wife. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA

MSG (R)  William  F.  Whitehead, Sr.  (D-91)  Age 76, passed away April 9, 2006 while in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC. William was a member at large of the Special Forces Association. William joined the 77th SFG (A), September 1952. On September 25, 1953, he received movement orders assigning him to FA Team 38, 10th SFG (A), Bad Tolz, Germany. He later served with the 1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A) and 7th SFG (A). While serving with the 5th Ranger Co. in Korea he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart.

Glen  E.  Reid  (M-2266)  Roy Johnson (D-516) of Chapter 1-18, informed the Special Forces Association that Glen E. Reid, age 68 had passed away March 10, 2006 after a six-year battle with cancer. From June-July 1960 Glen served in Hqs. Co. 7th SFG (A), in Aug 60 he attended the Army Foreign Language School taking Korean graduating in July 1961, from August 1961-May 64 he was assigned to Detachment A-321, 1st SFG (A), in June 1964-Apr 1965 he was assigned to the Korean Residence Team, and in May 1965-May 1966 he was assigned to the 3rd SFG (A).

SGM (R)  Charles  C. "Chuck"  Henderson  (D-1752)  A member of Special Forces Association Chapter 33 passed away Saturday, February 18, 2006 from heart failure in the Oakridge Medical Center, Oakridge, TN. Chuck listed his Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and SOG.  No other information was received

Joseph  William  Battle  (D-7296)  age 61, of Chapter 66, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 after a bout with throat cancer, and ensuring hospital difficulties with radiation treatments. After Joseph completed Special Forces training group in May 1964, he served in the following Special Forces units, 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 11th SFG (A), and the 19th SFG (A).  He was a Vietnam veteran.

1SGT (R)  Billy  H.  Ingram  (D-747)  age 76, a long time Special Forces medic, passed away January 25, 2006 in VA Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC. When Billy joined the Special Forces Association he listed his Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and FB 12 77th SFG (A).

SGM (R)  Richard (Dick)  D.  Warren  (D-200)  passed away, December 4, 2005 after a long illness. Dick was a member of Chapter 01-18, Fayetteville, NC. When Dick joined the Special Forces Association he listed his Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 77th SFG (A), Project Gamma B-57, MACVSOG, and Combined Studies. He also was a veteran of the Korean War, 187 RCT & made two combat jumps.

MSG (R)  Janusz  NMI  Rozanski  (D-972)  age 85, passed away on the evening, December 9, 2005. Janusz was a member of Chapter 1-18, Fayetteville, NC. He was born in Poland on May 31, 1920, and served as a lieutenant in the Polish Army during World War II, and in the Polish Resistance movement. When he joined the Special Forces Association he listed the following Special Forces units as the 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), 10th SFG (A), and CCN, VN.

MSG (R)  Douglas Fox  (D-531)  passed away December 13, 2005 while in a nursing home in Fayetteville, NC. When "Doug" joined the Association, on his application he listed the following Special Forces units,1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 6th SFG (A), 7th SFG (A), and the 77th SFG (A).

MSG (R)  Gerald  E.  Collins  (D-3984)  age 67 passed away while in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Durham, NC on Sunday, December 4, 2005. When Gerald joined the Special Forces Association he listed the following Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), 46th SF Company, Thailand, and Det. A, BBDE. Gerald had at one time worked for the Vinnell Corp.

Samuel  A.  McSpadden  (M-8606)  shortly after Thanksgiving Sam was admitted to the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VAMC, with a massive infection, and kidney failure, and passed away December 2, 2005. When Sam joined the Special Forces Association he listed the following Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 7th SFG (A).

LTC (R) Ronald K. Summers (D-778) died in his home at Columbus, Georgia on 15 October 2005 from a heart attack.  Ronald was a member of Chapter 5 but an at large member the past few years.  Ronald served five tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations.  When Ronald joined the Association he listed the following Special Forces assignments.  77th SFGA, 1st SFGA, 5th SFGA, 7th SFGA,  JFKCEN,  USAREUR.

SGM Wayne E. Williamson (D-5649) Died on 6 November 2005 in Papillion, NE.  Wayne was a Vietnam veteran.  When he joined the SF Association he listed the following SF assignments 77th, 1st, 5th, 7th and 10th SFGA.

COL (R)  Francis  Byron  Mills  (M-7472)  age 90, passed away September 27, 2005 at his home in Virginia Beach, VA after suffering a stroke. He served in the OSS Special Operations, France and OSS Special Operations, North China in WW II. He served as the C.O. of the 1st Special Forces Group (A), had a "C" team in the 77th Special Forces Group (A), and was the Assistance Commandant of the Special Warfare School at Fort Bragg, NC. He retired in 1966.

LTC (Retired)  Curtis  D.  Terry  (D-2100)  passed away on September 15, 2005, at his home. Terry was a member of Chapter 21 in Florida. Curtis listed the 10th SFG ('52-'57), 77th SFG ('57-'60), 1st SFG ('60-'63), 5th SFG ('64-'67), and SFTG (67-69) when he joined the Association. Terry was a member of the 8240th Army Unit, the Special Operations unit of the Korean War. He served with retired BG Joe Ulatoski on a small island off the East coast of Korea at the mouth of the Wonsan harbor with a partisan unit that conducted raids on and around Wonsan. He was an outstanding soldier, a great Special Forces Warrior.

Earnest  L.  Fant  (D2834)  passed away Saturday, Sept 17, 2005 in his home. in Southport, NC. He was a past member of Chapter 36 and had served with the 77th, 1st, 5th, 7th SFGs, and SFTG.

LTC (R)  Dennis "Dan"  M.  Madeira  (D-5356)  age 68, a member of SFA Chapter 8, Honolulu,HI passed away August 30, 2005 after a massive heart attack. Dan listed his Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), and the 5th SFG (A).

SFC Joyce F. Chastain, SR (D-3251) Died on 22 August 2005 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC.  He was a member of Chapter 1-18.  He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.  When Joyce joined the Association he listed the following SF assignments.  77th, 1st, 3rd, 5th and 10th SFGA.

Warren  E.  Birge  (D-357)    age 75, passed away August 6, 2005 after a long illness. Warren was a member of Chapter 1-18, Fayetteville, NC, however he lived in Beaver, PA. He listed his Special Forces assignments as the 1st SFG (A), 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and the 77th SFG(A).

SGM Richard C Hopfer (D-62) Died on 1July 2005in Fayetteville, NC.  Richard was an original member of the 10th SFGA and a charter member of the Special Forces Association.  When Richard joined the SF Association he listed the following SF assignments.  10th, 77th, 1st, 7th and 8th SFGA.

MAJ (R)  Warren "Brad"  A.  Bradish  (D-740)  age 68, of Tampa, FL passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005. Brad was a member of Chapter 60, MacDill AFB, Fl. Brad listed his Special Forces assignments as 1st SFG (A), 5th SFG (A), and the 6th SFG (A). Brad was a Vietnam vetersn.

MSG (Retired)  Lester "Les"  E.  Silvernail  (D-307)  age 75, passed away 16 April 2005 at the VA Medical Center, Washington, DC. Les was a member of Chapter 11, Stafford, VA. Les served with the following Special Forces units, 1st SFG(A), 3rd SFG(A), 5th SFG(A), 6th SFG(A), 7th SFG(A), 10th SFG(A), 77th SFG(A), & MACV SOG.

MSG Clifford L. Roberts (D-3123) Died on 7 April 2005.Cliff served in Korea and Vietnam.  He listed the followin SF assignments when he joined the SF Association.  1st, 5th and 6th SFGA.  He was a Vietnam veteran.

CSM Alfred C. Habelman (D-2695) Was killed in Iraq on 1 April 2005 while working for a California based  construction company traveling in a convoy that was attacked near Fullujah.  Al served with the 1st and 5th SFGA and was a veteran of Vietnam and Afghanistan.

MSG George W. Hill (D-5951) Died on 23 March 2005 in Deer-River Minnesota.  George was an original member of the 10th Group assigned to the 22nd Det.  He served two tours in Laos and listed the following SF assignments.  77th, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 46th Co and DET A.  George was a Vietnam veteran.

CSM John L. Hollis (D-2106) Died on 9 March 2005 from a massive Heart Attack in the Philippines.  John was a member of Chapter 46 Guam/Phillipines.  When John joined the SF Association in 1979 he listed the following SF assignments 1st, 5th, 6th and 7th SFGA.  He was Vietnam veteran.

MSG Phillip L. Currin (D-470) Died on 1 March 2005 in Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC.  When Phillip joined the SF Association in 1970 he listed the following SF assignments 77th, 1st, 5th, 7th, SFTG and 46th Co.

SGM Richard W. Dick Webb (D-1544) Died on 21 February 2005 in Fergus Falls, MN.  When Dick joined the SF Association he liste the following SF assignments.  1st, 5th, 7th SFGA and JFKIMA.  He was a Vietnam veteran.

CSM Richard E. 'Dick' Noble (D-1245) Died 14 February 2005 in Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA  Dick was a member of Chapter 16 in Ft Lewis. When he joined the Association in 1975 he listed the following SF assignments.  1st, 3rd, 5th,  6th, 7th, 10th, 46th Co,  DET E and 63rd BR Bn.  Dick was a Vietnam veteran.

Louis  H.  Woelfel  (D-218)  Died on December 30, 2004. He was a member of Chapter 12 in California. Lou served with the 1st, 3rd, 7th and 77th SFG(A) and 46th Co in Thailand.

Benny  J.  Phillips  (D-1624)  Died on January 11, 2005. He lived in Sanford, NC and was a member of Chapter 1-18 in Fayetteville, NC. Benny served with the 1st, 5th, and 7th SFG(A) and USAIMA.  He was a Vietnam Veteran.

James 'Jamma' Keanu (A-649) Died on 5 December 2004.  He was a member of Chapter 8 in Honolulu, HI.  A veteran of WWII and Korean wars.  He listed his Special Forces assignments as 1st SFGA.

William  G.  Barnes  (D-457)  Died on November 25, 2004. Bill was an at large member and lived in Cherry Hill, NJ. He served with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th SFG(A) and Det-A (Berlin).

William  C.  Lathrop  (M-4246)  Died on 9 December 2003. William was a member of chapter 34. He served with 1st SFGA. William was a Vietnam veteran.

CPT William T. Pellettier (R) (M-5605)  Died 8 December 2003 from cnacer in Ft Worth, TX.  Bill served in the 1st SFGA in Okinawa and Vietnam

Jimmie  R.  Johnson  (D-2125)  Died in Mufreesboro, TN. He was a member of chapter 38. Jimmie served served with SFTG, 3rd,1st,7th. He served with 5th SFGA in Vietnam.

SFC Joseph B. W. Smith (R) (D-197)  Died on 1 December 2003 in Mississippi he was a member of C-8..  Joe served with the 10th, 7th, 5th in Vietnam, and 1st SFG(A) in Vietnam and Okinawa

COL. (Retired)  David  E.  Shepherd, Jr  (D-2661)  Died on 1 December 2003. He served with the 1st, 8th and 5th SFGA from 1960-1972. He was an officer and member of C-11.

MSG (Retired)  William  F.  Carlson  (M-6073)  Was killed in Afganistan on 24 October 03 while working with the Agency. William served with the 1st SFGA and 5yrs with 75th RR. A memorial service was held at the JFK Chapel with burial in Macon Memorial Park, Macon, GA.

SFC(Retired)  Patrick  S.  McCulley  (M-788)  Died on 11 Nov 03 in Womack Army Hospital,Ft Bragg, NC. He joined Chapter 2 on Okinawa while assigned to 1st SFGA in 1972. Burial was in the Sandhill State Veterans Cemetary in Spring Lake, NC

Major (Retired)  Edward  C.  Sayre  (D-3267)  Died on 3 Nov 03 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital. Ed served with the 10th, 5th, and 1st SFGA. A memorial service was held at the JFK Chapel with burial in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake, NC.

SGM (Retired)  Marvin  R.  Forbes  (D-1797)  Died on 19 October 2003 in Womack Army Hospital at Ft.Bragg, NC. Marvin served with the 3rd, 5th (VN), 1st,7th, 10th SFGA. He was a member of Chapter 1-18. Marvin was original member of Chapter 2 in Okinawa.

CSM(Retired)  Robert  J.  Smith  (D-1185)  Died on 13 Oct 03 in Fayetteville,NC. Robert served with the 1st, 5th and 7th SFGA and was a veteran of Korean and Vietnam wars.

Charles  A.  Fennewald  (D-3050)  Died in August 03 in Warrensburg, Missouri. Charles Served with the 77th, 7th, 5th and 1st SFGA and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

MSG(Retired)  Franklin    Pinkerton  (D-477)  Died in August 03 in the state of Washington. He served with 1st, 10th and 5th SFGA. Memorial services were held at the MT. Tahoma National Cemetery.

Philip  R.  Waldman  (M-5205)  Died on 22 July 2003 at San Clemente, CA. He was a member of C-12, LA, CA. Phil served with the 7th,1st,6th,and 5th SFGA, with one tour in Laos and two tours in VN.

David  H  Greer  (M-7158)  Died on 16 July 2003 at his home in Ashland,Oregon. David served in 1st Group with a tour in Vietnam. He was a medic.

MSG (Retired)  Michael    McGillicuddy  (D-315)  Died on the 18th of June 2003 in St Anthony’s Hospital in Tampa, FL. Mike served with the 77th, 1st, 5th, and 7th SFG(A). He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

COL.(Retired)  Valentine  S.  Sky  (M-1758)  Died on 17 June 2003 at Ranch Palos Verde, CA. He was a member of C-12 in CA. Col Sky served with the 1st, 5th, 6th and 10th SFGA

MSG (Retired)  Richard  Wayne  Lewis  (D-2595)  Died on Monday, 9 June 2003 at his home in La Vernia Texas. He was buried June 12, 2003 at a small cemetery close to his home with full military honors. Wayne served with the 1st, 5th, 8th SFGA, Training Group and with MAC-V SOG. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

William  R.  Bush  (D-3213)  Died on April 14, 2003 in Huntsville, TX. He was a member of Chapter 39 in Dallss, TX. Bill served with the 1st, 5th, 8th and 77th SFGA. Bill was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

CSM (Retired)  William  E.  Edge  (D-1378)  Died on April 13, 2003 in Plano, TX. Bill was a member of Chapter 31 in Dallas, TX. He served with the 1st,5th, 6th, and 12th SFGA, and USAIMA. Bill was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

MSG (Retired)  James  L.  Page  (M-895)  Died on the 9th of April 2003 in Len Care Nursing Home in Fayetteville, NC. James served with the 1st SFGA. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

SGM (Retired)  Albert Servie Jr.  (M-3579)  Died on 26 March 2003 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh NC. Al served with the 1st 3rd and MACV-SOG in vietnam. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

MSG (Retired)  Christopher  H.  Myrick  (D-3651)  Died on 26 March, 2003. He served with the 7th, swc, and 1st Groups (77-89). No arrangements confirmed for Arlington National Cemetery Burial.

SGM (Retired)  Jeffrey  T.  Moon  (D-4597)  Died on 8 March 2003 due to a motorcycle accident in Mesquite, Texas. Jeffery was a member of C-31 in Dallas, Tx. He was a personal Security officer for Ross Perot. Jeffery served with the 1st and 7th SFGA.

MSG (Retired)  Tommy  Futris  (D-667)  Died in Fayetteville, NC on 25 Feb 03. Tommy served in the Korea and Vietnam wars. He also worked with the Civil Service at Ft Bragg until 1999. He served with the 1st Gp, 3rd Gp, 6th Gp and the 8th Gp.

Ramon  Ancho  (D-1820)  Died recently in King, NC. Ramon served with the 1st, 3rd, and 5th SFG (A) with 3 tours in Vietnam. He was a Vet of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

CSM (Retired)  Marvin Wells  D-1221  Died on January 03, 2003 at the Veterans Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. Death was caused by severe brain damage form a pistol whipping by a person committing a felony robbery. Marvin was a triple CIB recipient and served with the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th SFG(A). He served several tours in Vietnam with SF.

PAUL J. PADGETT MAJ (Retired)  Passed away on November 27, 2002 after a long illness. Paul served with the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War of 1938-1939. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and was a member of 1st Special Forces Group on Okinawa. He was the recipient of numerous awards to include the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star w/oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star w/2 oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart w/2 oak leaf clusters and CIB 2nd award His wife Emma of Bangor, California survives him.

Robert  R  Riggins  M-6366  Died recently in Thomson, Georgia. Robert served with the 7th and 1st Gp and Thailand 1968-1969

Paul  F.  Smith  D-5082  Died on 15 November 2002 in Connecticut. Paul served with the 5th, 7th, 1st SFG(A) and 46th Company in Vietnam and Thailand.

CW3 (Retired)  Darrell  L.  Barber  M-2111  Died on 20 November 2002. Darrell served with 1st SFG(A) on Okinawa and Vietnam 1971-1974

Darrall  D.  Redman  M-451  Died on 17 November 2002 in Thailand after a battle with Cancer. Darrell was a member of C-3 in Thailand. He served with the 7th, 5th, and 1st Groups with a second tour with MACV (PRU

MSG (R) John R Arbasetti D-1771 Died on 2 October 2002 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.  He was a member of C-1-18.  John served with the 1st, 5th, 7th and 10th.

MSG (Retired)  James  A.  Price  D-1021  Died on 23 September 2002 at Russiaville, Indiana. "Jim" served with the 7th, 1st, 3rd, and 5th SFGA. He served two tours in Vietnam, one with B-50 and one with FANK (TF-1).

Captain (Retired)  Robert  M.  Jewel  D-1440  Died on 17 September 2002 at Pensacola Naval Hospital. He was a member of C-44 in Pensacola. "Bob" served with the 10th, 77th, 1st, and 3rd, SFGA. He also served with the 2nd Ranger Bn during WWII.

SGM (Retired)  Julian  K  Halemau  D-402  Died on 16 August 2002 in Hawaii. He was a member of C-8 in Hawaii. "Hale" served with the 1st, 5th, and 6th Groups and was an advisor to the SF Reserve in Hawaii from 1959 to 1961.

CPT (Retired)  Martin  P  Matteson  D-4958  Died on 5 August 2002 in Tennessee. He was a member of C-33 in Cleveland, TN. Matt served with the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Groups and was a veteran of the 6th Ranger Company during the Korean War

MSG (Retired)  Robert  A  Corriveau  D-33  Died on 15 August 2002 at Fayetteville, NC. Bob served with the 77th, SOD Japan, 1st, 6th, 3rd, and 5th Groups. He was a member of C-1-18 in Fayetteville, NC.

SGM (Retired)  Frank  E  Strausbaugh  D-323  Died on 18 August 2002 at his home in Spring Lake, NC. Frank Served with the 77th, 7th, 1st, and 5th Groups. He was a member of C-1-18 in Fayetteville, NC.

SGM (Retired)  Eugene  L.  Haas  D-454  Died on 3 August 2002 at Fayetteville, NC. Gene served with the 77th, 7th, 5th, 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 46th Co. in Thailand. He served multiple tours in Vietnam.

MSG (Retired)  Clyde  F.  Bright  D-612  Died recently at Kileen, Tx. He was a member of C-77. Clyde served with the 1st, 5th, and 7th SFGA with several tours in Vietnam. SF Service 1962-1974.

MSG (R) Billy L Kessinger  Died recently in Fayetteville, NC.  He served with the 1st in Okinawa and Vietnam and several Groups to include SFODA-044 (MFF).

MSG (R) Vernon Carnahan M2753 Died 18 June 2002 at Natchitoches, Louisiana.  He served with the 1st in Okinawa and Vietnam and was one of the Gallant Survivors of the Battle of A Shau with A-503.

MSG (R) Henry Gainous Jr D-3432 Died 14 June 2002 At Fayetteville, NC.. He served with 1st, 5th, 3rd and MACV SOG.  Henry was a Veteran of WWII, Korea and The Vietnam War

LTC(R)  Adam  W  Husar  D-199  Died on 1 June 2002 at his home in Hayward, California. He was a member of C-23 in San Francisco, CA. Adam served with the 8240th in Korea, the 77th, 1st, AND 5TH SFGA.

SGM (Retired)  Charles  C.  Vandever  D-119  Died on 18 May 02 in Crossville, TN. Charlie served with the 10th (original member),77th, 7th, 1st and 5th Groups. He also served in Korea with the 187th Abn RCT.

MSG(R) Walter R 'Bob' Lewelling D-608 Died 1 April 2002 at the VAMC, Salt Lake City, UT.  Bob served with the 1st, 3rd, 7th Groups and Project 404.

MSG(R) Frank P. Batteford Died on 30 March 2002 in Alexandria, LA.  Frank served with the 1st and 5th Groups with three tours in Vietnam [ A-322, Project Delta, CCN and A-501]. 

SGM(Retired) Willard Griffin  D-5832  Died recently at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC. He was a member of C-1-18 in Fayetteville. Willard served with the 1st, 3rd, 6th, and two tours with 5th Gp in Vietnam

COL(R) Thomas P. Iuliucci M-882 Died recently in Cape Fear Valley MC, Fayetteville, NC.  Tom served with the 7th and 1st SFG(A}.

LTC (R)  Edgar  J.  Albrick  M-2640  Died on 20 February 2002 in Fairfield, CA. He was a member of C-23 in San Francisco. "The Coach" served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He served with the 77th, 7th, and 1st SFG(A).

MSG (R)  Harold  H.  Dreblow  D-385  Died recently in Florida. Harold was cremated. He served with the 77th, 10th, 5th, 3rd, 1st, and 46th Co.with multiple tours in Vietnam

COL. (R)  Doyle  D.  Taylor  D-2423  Died on 30 January 02 in San Antonio, TX. Doyle served with the 1st Gp, JSKSWCS, 46th Co, and the 12th SFGA. He also served in Vietnam in a non SF role.

MSG (R)  Marvin  E  Matteson SR  D-717  Died on 22 January 2002 at UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina. "Matt" was a member of CH 1-18 in Fayetteville, NC. He served several tours in Vietnam with the 1st and 5th SFGA. "Matt" also served with the 77th, 7th, IMA and SWC.

Eddie  B.  Golden  (M-6130)  Died 2 Jan 2002 in Leesville, South Carolina. He was a member of Chapter 34 in Columbia, South Carolina. Eddie served with SFTG, 6th, 1st, 7th, 5th SFG(A) and 46th Company.

MSG (Retired)  Fred Hardy  (D-173)  Died recently in Tampa, Flordia. Fred was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He served with the 77th, 1st, 7th, 6th, 3rd, and SF Training Groups for almost twenty years.

SFC (Retired) Amandus M. Ihli (D-11) Died recently in Spokane, Washington.  He was a member of C-16 and a charter member of the SFA.  He served with the 77th, ASOD (Japan), 1st (Laos), SFTG, and 5th (Vietnam).

CWO (Retired) William "Willie" Queen Died recently in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  He was a member of C-1-18.   "Willie" was an original member (1952) of the 10th SFG(A) and a charter member of the SFA.  He served with the 10th, 77th (Laos), 1st (Laos), 5th (Vietnam) and 6th SFG(A).

MSG (Retired) Winsley F. Kamalu (D-251) Passed away in Florida on 8 November 2001.  Kamalu was a member of C-21 and an original member of 10th Gp.  Kamalu also served with the 77th, 7th, 5th, 6th and 1st Groups with several tours in Vietnam.

Roger G. (Bumper) Grant (M-4789) Passed away on 25 October 2001 at his home in Clearwater, FL.  He was a member of C-40 in Clearwater.  Grant served with the 1st, 6th and 7th SFG(A).

William F. Roby (M-4220) Died on 23 September 2001 in Illinois.  William served with the 1st and 6th SFGA's.

Sergeant Major (Retired) Ben C. Dennis, SR (D-465) Died on 27 September 2001, at Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.   Ben served with the 1st, 5th, 7th, and Det. K, with several tours in Vietnam including MACV SOG.

Ray Sakowski (D-2654) Died recently in Florida.  Ray was a veteran of WWII, Korea andVietnam.   He served with Training Group, 1st Group and 5th Group in Vietnam.

Sergeant First Class (Retired) Viktors E. Eichvalds (D-86) Died on 21 August 2001. While on active duty, Viktors served with the 10th, 77th, 1st and 5th SFG's (A).

SSG (R) William S. Quigley III (M-479) Died recently in MA.  William served with the 1st, 6th and 10th Gp with one tour in Vietnam.

James R. Steelman, Jr. (M-5476) Died recently in Florida.  He was a member of C-21.  "Jim" served with the 1st, 7th and 10th Groups.

SGM (R) Arthur R. Simon (D-1644) Died on 14 August 01 in Bethesda Naval Medical Hospital. Arthur served with 1st Gp, 7th Gp and 5th Gp (CCN).

MSG (Retired) Francis D. Dowgos (D-546) Died on 12 July 01 in Scotia, NY. He was a member of C-61 in NY State. Francis served with the 1st, 5th, 7th and 10th Groups.
