Eulis Fwds FYI.....
Friends please forward this information so others may have the opportunity to support the efforts of todays 1st SFG(A) SOLDIERS
Memorial Monument To Honor Each Name Of The Men Of The 1st SFG(A) Who Were Killed In Action / Missing In Action---1957 to
Present---and Tomorrow
![]() ![]() Initiative: We,the 1st
SFG(A) SOLDIERS and our First-in-Asia/Special Activities Association
of the 1st Special Forces Group (Abn), have started an initiative to add
the Vietnam era KIA names to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne)'s
memorial stone. To do so we are required to increase the size of the
memorial because of the numbers involved. The current memorial only
contains post second-activation-date names. There is only one 1st
SFG(A) and the names of our KIA from both periods should be
consolidated and honored on one memorial.

First In Asia Project Description: The First Special Forces Group Memorial Wall will be located outside building 9190, Bldg. 9190, Chapman Circle, Ft. Lewis, WA 98433-1301. The memorial will be constructed of polished black granite approximately 16 feet long, 8 inches thick and 6 feet tall in the center tapering down to 3 feet at the sides. The stone will be secured on a reinforced concrete foundation built to the monument maker specifications. The left side of the stone will be engraved with names of First Special Forces Group Soldiers who gave their lives that were ever assigned to the First Group from its activation up to its deactivation in 1974. http://www.1stsfgp.org/1stsfgpmiakia.htm The center of the monument will have an SF crest at the top with the SF prayer below it. The right side of the monument will be reserved for future names. A retaining wall constructed of 16 x 6 inch manor stone landscape blocks tapering from 7 feet in the center and curving to ground level approximately 4 feet in front of the wall will serve as the backdrop for the memorial. Cobblestone paving blocks 7 1/8 inches x 8 7/8 inches will be used to lay a 4 foot patio in front of the memorial and an 8 foot sidewalk leading from the existing memorial inside of Chapman Circle. Cobble-stones on the walk way will be gray and red to facilitate a blending of the two memorials. Point of contact is the undersigned at 253-967-8853, or by cellular at 253-208-8388. Kevin L. Patton SFC, US Project Manager. pattonk@soc.mil Financing: The monument is being financed through
private donation and fund-raisers.
Donations: Send checks to:First In Asia, PO Box 33944, Fort Lewis, WA 98433 Make checks payable to First In Asia (For Memorial Wall) Contributors of $125 or more will have the option of their names engraved in the brick side walk leading to the monument. The brick may also be donated in honor of a fallen comrade. First in Asia is also a 501c-3 tax
exempt nonprofit organization so all donations are tax deductible.
The concrete foundation is in place and we are breaking ground for the
retaining wall and walk way on 19 November 03. The granite
has arrived and is being polished in preparation for engraving by the
contractor at the present time.
We are presently considering the date
of 24 June 2004 as the most probable of the dates for unveiling the
memorial wall. This date would be on the traditional date when the
1st SFG was activated in 1957. The only thing that is holding us up is
$$$$$ about 20K.
